Are you looking for MOT for your vehicle?

It is a legal requirement for vehicles from three years old to pass the annual MOT test to ensure they are roadworthy, safe, and meet the emission standards. Therefore, to be able to drive legally, every vehicle must undertake an annual MOT test from an authorised garage.

DCM Tyre & Autocentres is an authorised garage that performs Class 4 MOT Shaftesbury. We have advanced equipment and tools, and our professionals are expertly trained within the MOT rules and regulations.

Vehicles included in Class 4 MOT

At DCM Tyre & Autocentres, we provide MOT for class 4 vehicles. This segment includes cars with up to 8 passenger seats and vehicles that weigh up to 3000 kg.

Key checks in an MOT test Shaftesbury

Tyres

During the MOT test, our professionals check the tread depth and verify if it meets the minimum legal requirement of 1.6 mm. Also, our experts inspect the tyre condition and check for cuts, bulges, lumps, tears, exposed cords, etc.

Exhaust and emission

Our technicians will inspect the exhaust components, like the silencer, catalytic converter, etc., and check if they are free of leaks. Experts of DCM Tyre & Autocentres will check the emission levels of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, etc. Also, they visually check for excessive blue or black smoke emitted from the exhaust.

Seat and seat belts

During the MOT test Shaftesbury, our technicians will inspect if the seats are secured. They will also check the seat belt fitment and condition.

Suspension

MOT test Shaftesbury involves checking the suspension components, including struts, shock absorbers and springs for excessive corrosion, distortion, and fractures.

Apart from these, our technicians also check:

  • Wheels
  • Brakes
  • Horn
  • Lights
  • Doors
  • Mirrors
  • Towbar
  • Fuel system
  • Bodywork
  • Steering system
  • Wipers and washers
  • Registration plate
  • Bonnet, etc.

MOT pass, fail and retest

If your vehicle passes all the checks as per the DVSA standards, you will receive a VT20 certificate. In case your vehicle fails to meet the standard requirements, we will provide a VT30 certificate (MOT fail certificate) detailing the reasons. Please note that dangerous and major faults lead to an MOT failure, and these defects must be rectified for your vehicle to pass its MOT retest. Minor faults or advisories do not, however, affect the pass or fail of a vehicle.

In case of an MOT fail, you have to get all faults repaired and a partial re-test needs to be carried out afterwards.

Please note that MOT retests must be done within 10 working days, or else, you will have to opt for a new MOT test altogether. Also, note that MOT retests are free only if we have conducted the repairs.
